newest stuff is at the top, so scroll down for older trips. If you are interested in trips
older than a year or two, follow that link; this includes my fantastic
trip with Joseph to see Daniel in
Turkey during the spring 2003 regional

reunion in Kona over New Year's 2003-2004,
my Punahou class 60th birthday year
cruise in 2004, and my Punahou class cruise to
Alaska; my trip with college friends -
pre-Katrina hurricane - to
New Orleans; and my trip to England and
Tenerife in 2005. The summary of my in early
Spring 2006 trip to see Daniel in
Japan is inadequate, and my diary is too long:

to look at most of the pictures for the site, you can see them all (except Hawaii & Alaska
cruises and Turkey) as a
slide show with short
identifying titles on at least some pictures (I hope the script works for you).
As you can tell, I am still shamelessly behind in getting the text and all the pictures cleaned up, shrunk, annotated, and posted here, despite unemployment and now retirement. I might apply words which are the bane of software (and lots of other fields) here: hopefully you should expect updates soon; watch this space but I have not been making much progress.
Just Sailor and I were home for Christmas, so I decorated the revived smaller Alberta spruce. Santa found the stockings, but most were empty or nearly empty (absent family). Read our 2011 Christmas letter with added photos.
Pre-Thanksgiving in Honolulu (November 16-23, 2011)

I flew to Honolulu to be there the weekend of the anniverisary of my father's death. Surprise! nephew Chris and his fiancee (got engaged on Molokai the month before) Shawn had sailed in from Mexico. There was much work to do for my mohter, even after younger brother Peter had been there quite recently. I managed a short hike up Diamond Head, noticing that they have changed the pathways. This put me home for a quiet Thaksgiving. word .

Christmas 2010 in Los Altos (with the whole family)

Joseph flew down from Portland for 2 weeks with Mr. Corgan the cat, Rachel flew in from Cincinnati for almost a week, Daniel flew in from Madison via Honolulu for 2 weeks, and Ellen flew in from Philadelphia for a week; all were togther for ~36 hours to have Christmas together. We had a fine time, a good Christmas dinner, and, with help from Santa, produced stockings and presents under the 2008 tree - now bigger. Distracted by life and death, our 2010 Christmas letter got out in January.

Visit to Madision to see Daniel and Ellen (November 2009)

I used Delta miles to get a flight on Northwest to visit Madison, Wisconsin, for a long weekend. Daniel used his Commuinty Car to fetch me from (and later to) the airport (nice, small). He had closed the downstairs bedroom, vacuumed it, and put on a filter-fan to protect me from cat allergies. Harold wasn't doing too well and sadly died thereafter. We had a good explore of downtown and the capitol (visited Kapitol Kids where he worked part time); we saw a movie, got groceries, explored the campus and Daniel's and Ellen's academic spaces on a very nice day, and on Sunday, Daniel and I went to meeting for worship at ?, part of Iowa Conservative Yearly Meeting. Our final outing was to the zoo by bus, where we saw a real live Wisconsin badger, among other animals. I thoroughly enjoyed visited the two of them and seeing a bit about how they live and operate in Madison. word .

Christmas 2008 at home (with the whole family)

Joseph and Rachel flew down from Portland for just over a week and Daniel and Ellen flew in from Madison for a bit less to have Christmas together in Los Altos. We had a fine time, and Santa and all of us produced presents in stockings and under the (new) tree. As usual, our 2008 Christmas letter did not get out until after Christmas.
Ten Day Punahou '62 Cruise "New England and Canada - Fall Colors" (September 28 - October 8, 2008)

My Punahou class agents organized a third cruise - this one out of NYC, and despite the cost, I
went and had a good time, despite two injuries, one of which was 'bouncing' my face off granite,
breaking a tooth and mashing things up quite nicely. There were over 30 of us altogether,
including spouses, in-laws, children, and grand child: click on the image on the left to see
us all. To see our ship, the Norwegian Jewel, click on the image on the right. Here is our
route and itinerary for the
trip. If you are more interested than you need to be, you can read my
diary or wait for me to finish short text with
pictures of what I did, once I get a round tuit.
September 28 - We left NYC about 4:30, all had dinner together, and, in semi-rough seas,
went to Boston.
September 29 - Arrived in Boston just after noon, and I took a fascinating excursion to
Salem (never been there before) for history and the witch trial museum. We departed at dusk just after 8:00 pm.
September 30 - This was 'at sea' day #1.
October 1 - Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (Atlantic Time): 8 am to 4 pm
October 2 - This was 'at sea' day #2.
October 3 - Québec City, Québec, Canada (Eastern Time): 9 am to 9 pm
October 4 - This was 'at sea' day #3.
October 5 - Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada (Atlantic Time): 7 am to 6 pm
October 6 - Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Canada (Atlantic Time): 8 am to 4 pm
October 7 - This was 'at sea' day #4.
October 8 - We docked back in NYC just before 8 am, we all departed the Norwegian Jewel,
and in a very long day of hurry up and wait, I arrived back home in Los Altos to a dog very
happy to see me.
Details will appear if I ever get better organized.
A Month in Maine on Little Deer Isle with Sailor (August 20 - September 22, 2008)
If you are more interested than you need to be, you can read my
diary. Otherwise all you can see for now is
some familiar-looking geezer
playing tennis at the
Island Country Club - at Wednesdays and Sundays open tennis.
Details will appear if I ever get better organized.
The 180 Birthdays Party - A family reunion in Honolulu (August 5 - 12, 2008)

My parents put together a party on 8/8/8 to celebrate their 90th birthdays, which occurred in
August. There were 12 of us in the Jaquette party:
John & Margaret Jaquette (center
of picture); Peter & Andrea with Elisabeth, Jonathan, and Matthew (on the left); and me with
Joseph & Rachel plus Daniel and Ellen Qualey (on the right). The party, in Arcadia's Solarium,
included some family friends plus many Arcadia residents. We stayed at the New Otani hotel
just past the Waikiki Aquarium and also had time to visit with (grand)parents, explore Punahou
School and a bit of Manoa Valley where I grew up, swim at Waikiki, climb Diamond Head and
have shaved ice, and eat at Ono's Hawaiian Food and a great ramen shop on Kapahulu Avenue.
Before the celebration, Daniel, Ellen, and I met up at Honolulu airport and went to Hilo for a couple of days to see Hilo, Big Island waterfalls, and lots of Kilauea.
Details will appear if I ever get better organized.
Older adventures are here.
